Company:
AWeber Communications
Problem:
In the world of email marketing, automation is king. Automation makes it possible to literally “sell while you’re asleep,” giving business owners a 24-hour sales cycle.
While AWeber had led the way by creating the original email autoresponder in 1998, technology has become more sophisticated (and so have our customers). No longer is it good enough to simply send out a continuous stream of emails. Now we have the ability to see how email subscribers interact with those messages and respond in a way that matches their interests. Are you selling shoes? If your email has links to both dress shoes and sneakers and a subscriber clicks on links about sneakers, you can automatically add them to a series that showcases your company’s sneakers and athletic shoes. Did they show more interest in dress shoes? Funnel that subscriber into a series all about business shoes and accessories.
AWeber had the ability to do all of these things under the hood, but we needed to figure out a user interface for setting up the conditional statements in a way that was simple, quick, and straightforward.

Video of Automations in Action

After selecting a message for the “Send Message” element, an “Add Automations” button appears
After clicking the button, you’re presented with a simple if/then statement and can begin by simply selecting a trigger. In this case, we’ve selected “Clicks a link”
We then click the “Select links” button to choose the link that will trigger the automation
After that, we just have to select the action that should happen after the trigger event takes place. In this case, we’ll choose to add the tag “sneakers” to the subscriber’s record.
All that remains to do is click “Apply” to save our changes
